About the Coach 

Coach Ware spent 9 seasons as the varsity coach at West Point High School. Compiled an overall record of 113-91, while winning three Tidewater District Championships, a Region A Championships, and making 3 consecutive state tournament appearances. 4- time Tidewater District Coach of the Year. Coached 3 Tidewater District Players of the Year, 6 All-Region, and 2 All-State selections as well as the Single-A Player of the Year for Virginia.

Coach Ware has been an instrumental part in having players recruited at the collegiate level. While doing so he has established numerous contacts from Division I to Division III coaches.

Prior to being named varsity coach at West Point, he spent 8 seasons as the JV girls coach, compiling an overall record of 135- 12. Winning 6 JV Tidewater Championships. 

He spent several years coaching with James River as a head coach as well as an assistant in years passed. 

He is currently coaching his son's 10-11-year-old youth team in West Point.

Coaches Goals

  • To witness individual growth in both players' academic and personal lives through the values taught in basketball. 
  • Present opportunities and challenges which require team and individuals to step outside of their comfort zone and achieve their greatest potential.
  • To exhibit and maintain a fun, positive, and enthusiastic atmosphere.
  •  To display in attitude and action; Team first, self-secondary 
  • Appreciation for personalities and each member's unique role on the team.
  • Have all players understand what we do as a TEAM to be successful and to develop trust in one another.
  • To discover the strengths of our team and personnel with the objective of playing an offense and defense that accentuates these aspects.
  • To have practices reflect game pace; developing competitive, intense habits. 
  • Maintain the condition essential to our style of play.
  • Emotional self-control, positive attitude, and good sportsmanship will determine who plays. 
  • Players will learn to set realistic goals on a regular basis.
  • Last but not least... put these young ladies in front of College Coaches.
