About the Coach

I got started on my coaching career early by getting involved with AAU for my hometown organization in 9th grade. While in high school I set records for career assists, single game assists, season assists and career charges taken. I continued to coach with the Stealers throughout high school until I left NC for VA to play at Randolph-Macon College. I spent a majority of my college career injured but we were able to capture one ODAC championship and a second round NCAA tournament appearance. After graduation, I joined the Averett University women's basketball staff as a graduate assistant for two years before going on to take the assistant coaching position at Guilford. While at Guilford, we finished second in the region with a 22-6 record and an at-large NCAA tournament berth. We also went on to secure a second round NCAA tournament appearance before losing to the eventual national champion. After moving up to Richmond I've been given the opportunity to help with the James River Blaze and I'm looking forward to it!

Recap of our Girls' 5th Grade Blaze team for 2017.

A majority of our 4th/5th-grade team got their first taste of AAU basketball this year. Our focus was to continue to improve our skills on an individual and team level by working hard on the fundamentals and playing against quality competition. We wanted to not just think about the areas we excelled at or the areas that needed improvement but both. The players learned the importance of recognizing that even when things go well there's always something to work on just as there is always something they do well even when they didn't play their best. With this mindset, the girls put in the extra effort to improve both in practice and on their own. Their efforts were rewarded as they began to see that work pay off in the form of victories. They worked to learn proper footwork and fundamentals and were able to put it all together for an outstanding last tournament in which we went 3-2. It's been a joy to watch them grow step by step as basketball players and I look forward to seeing where the game will take them!
